Sandwiches have always been one of my favorites foods to eat ever since I was young. One of the reasons they are such a favorite with me is their versatility. You can basically put anything you want in between two pieces of bread and call it a sandwich. They can also be eaten on the go unless it is a messy sandwich, which is just as welcome. Ike’s Love & Sandwiches is my kind of place. Ike’s offers an impressive 15 sandwiches on their vegetarian menu, many of which can even be made vegan. They make sandwiches that you really can’t get anywhere else because they’re so original. Ike’s bakes their own dutch crunch bread which is a must try. It does a great job keeping the sandwich filling put. My usual sandwich order is The Gramps which has vegan turkey, mushrooms, and provolone. For this visit, I branched out to try something new. I decided on a Handsome Owl, which has vegan breaded chicken, teriyaki sauce, wasabi mayo, and Swiss cheese. It was definitely a wild combination and I loved it. It was warm, toasty, fresh, and meaty, which I start to miss after being vegetarian for so long. All of the veggie sandwiches are under $10 which is a good price considering how massive they are and the odd-ball ingredients they use.
There are only two downsides I have come across when it comes to Ike’s but they are not related to the food. Their hours are not convenient given the type of food and location. They are only open until 7pm. Many times when I pass by Ike’s or have a sudden sandwich craving, it is long past that time. Another thing I have noticed is the state of the interior of the restaurant. While I do not expect anything fancy, the cleanliness of the place could be improved. This is a red flag for a lot of people. The food is good enough for me to ignore this though.
There really is something for everyone here. The challenge isn’t finding a sandwich you like, but choosing between all the ones that sound good. See their online menu to know what I am talking about.

The fact they have such a vegetarian menu already makes me like them but having one that is so large and flavorful makes this my favorite sandwich shop out of anywhere I’ve been to.
