For a Sunday morning brunch, crepes are a classic. Before, I probably hadn’t had a filled crepe since I spent a summer in Arcata visiting my sister years ago. Shoutout to Renata’s Creperie on G St. If you are ever in that area, I would highly recommend going there. Make sure you bring an appetite though, the portions are large. This post is about a different crepe restaurant though. For this outing, I went to Crepeville with my close friends, Sara and Chessa. For those who don’t know, Crepeville has a few locations in Sacramento and Davis. It isn’t the perfect image of a small business but it is relatively local. Crepeville has a vast menu. Someone who’s not in the mood for crepes could alternatively get french toast or eggs benedict among many other things.
The crepes are highly customizable. You can build your own and choose from and endless list of fillings. This was my initial plan of action but with so many things to choose from, I chickened out at the register and just went with a simple basil crepe from the menu. Each crepe came with either a side of country potatoes or fresh fruit. Obviously I went with the potatoes. That extra side really made $7.95 a fair price. The basil crepe was filled with basil, cheddar, onions, tomato, spinach, and feta. I was a big fan of the crepe. Fresh basil always hits the spot. There are a lot of vegetarian crepes, including one filled with smoked tofu. A meat free person won’t have feel limited with this menu. While I wasn’t able to take home leftovers, I was adequately satiated after eating. The potatoes were good but I think it is hard to mess up country potatoes. It was questionable whether they were made to order or not. They were fresh enough and undoubtedly made that day but they weren’t as fresh as I wanted. It didn’t stop me from eating them though. A unique thing about Crepeville is their assortment of infused waters. These come free of charge, which appeals to my inner cheapskate. I liked eating at Crepeville but I have had better brunches. My friends were pleased, although they aren’t a tough crowd. Keep in mind, I am tough to please with food because I have such a passion for it. I will come here again if I ever have a crepe craving. I think it is a good addition to the restaurants downtown.
